The University of Michigan Section of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry is seeking a talented junior faculty member for its 16-bed child and adolescent inpatient unit and consultation-liaison service. This child and adolescent psychiatry inpatient unit provides short term, acute inpatient care for youths with depressive disorders, eating disorders, autistic spectrum disorders, anxiety disorders, and other disruptive behavior disorders. A talented faculty and staff make this unit a regional and multi-state referral site for children with psychiatric illness. The growing Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry Service serves the C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital, a 348 bed, tertiary care pediatric hospital serving the state of Michigan and Northeastern Ohio. The faculty will also serve on a dynamic team providing consultation and liaison services for youth and transitional age young adults with a variety of medical and psychiatric comorbidities including somatic symptom disorders, delirium and variety of other psychiatric conditions.
The faculty member will work closely with Pediatrics faculty members at the University of Michigan C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital. Additionally, they would provide teaching to fellows and residents at the University of Michigan. Call expectations are currently 1 weekend in 12. The faculty member can expect to have some months off-service in which to pursue other academic interests. Opportunities for clinical research and quality improvement are available for interested faculty.
Inpatient supervisor and preceptor for child psychiatry fellows, psychiatric house staff, mid-level providers, pediatric house staff and medical students. Didactic lectures for pediatricians, medical students, general psychiatry/pediatric residents, child psychiatry fellows, clinical skills verification as needed. There will be opportunities to teach in core curriculum, medical student teaching, and journal club. The successful candidate will be involved in Resident recruitment and interviewing process.
Faculty will attend MD faculty and administrative meetings within the Child Section and the Department of Psychiatry.
A Doctor of Medicine/Osteopathy is required. Possession of a current license to practice medicine in the State of Michigan is necessary. Completion of a residency in Psychiatry is required. Must be board certified or board eligible in Child Psychiatry. Applicants must have demonstrated promise for an academic career that emphasizes clinical care, teaching and administration. Superior clinical competencies and master teacher skills are necessary and be an active member in good standing of the University of Michigan Medical Staff. The successful candidate should have an interest in the delivery of exceptional inpatient psychiatric services. Comfort with providing psychiatric care to patients with significant physical health or developmental needs is necessary.
