Responsibilities*

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

The School of Nursing (UMSN), Office of Undergraduate Studies, Undergraduate Program is recruiting nursing professionals with advanced clinical training in Community Health Nursing to teach clinical section(s) in course N456 – Community Health Nursing. Course times TBD. Successful applicants will teach a clinical section(s) of this course, in a community health setting inclusive of the Ann Arbor campus and/or the surrounding areas, including Detroit metro.

N456 – Community Health Nursing:  During this theory and clinical course, students will be guided to think critically about the role and core competencies of community health nursing in promoting health, preventing disease, and restoring health. The nursing process is applied to individuals, families, aggregates and communities within diverse population and ecological contexts. Emphasis is placed on the synthesis of concepts, theories, knowledge, and practice from nursing and public health sciences to determine the health status, needs, and assets of communities and their members. Students assess physical, social, and cultural environments, identify populations at risk, and implement and evaluate appropriate nursing interventions. During clinical practice they apply the nursing process in delivering community health nursing services in partnership with health agencies and communities. Strategies for health care delivery, application of health-related technologies and databases, and multidisciplinary collaboration are emphasized.

Required Qualifications*

NECESSARY QUALIFICATIONS

A baccalaureate in community health nursing is required; a master’s degree in community health nursing is preferred.  Preference will be given to applicants who have clinical teaching experience and content expertise in community health nursing. A nursing license in the State of Michigan is required for this position (current licensure or willingness to obtain licensure). Prior to the start date, the selected candidates must be in compliance with all health requirements.

This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the Lecturers Employee Organization, AFL-CIO, which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours and other terms and conditions of employment.
