The qualified candidate will be responsible for assisting with skin surgical procedures for the treatment of skin cancer and other related skin diseases, as well as, providing direct patient care for patients in the Cutaneous Surgery/Oncology Unit.
Licensed practical nurse in the Mohs Unit work independently with the physician, for the following procedures.
Consultations, Mohs surgery, reconstruction with flaps and grafts, wide local excisions, post-op follow ups.
Review surgical procedure, medical history, medications and allergies prior to surgery.
Obtaining vital signs and entering all data into MI Chart. Assisting with procedure, bandaging, and giving post-operative instructions. Administer and document medications as ordered by physician.
Pathology follow up from wide local excisions and biopsies. Notifying patient of results.
Coordinate treatment plan as indicated by physician. Precepting and training of newly hired MA’s. Provides cross coverage for co-workers.
Assist RN’s with daily responsibilities as directed. Participate in monthly staff meeting and other work groups as assigned by supervisor or physician for process improvements.
Quality improvement projects as assigned by supervisor.
Problem solve issues related to retrieval of medical information.
Other duties also include: Participate in rotation for cleaning and wrapping of instruments for sterilization.
Maintain unit equipment and arrange for service as needed. Attend appropriate continuing education, staff development programs.
Graduation from an approved school for practical nursing.
Current licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse in the State of Michigan.
Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills, ability to serve as a positive role model, take initiative and facilitate cooperative relationships.
Ability to take direction from a multiple number of medical clinicians, RN’s and supervisor, as well as work independently and efficiently in a busy environment.
Effective time management skills, consistently, uses available time effectively.
Computer literate, working knowledge of Word and Excel.
Must have excellent attendance and punctuality.
Experience in outpatient procedure/surgery area.
Hours: 40 hours per week
Days/Shift/Hours: Monday through Friday; Day shift; specific hours and days to be determined upon hire.
