How to Apply
Interested candidates should send their CV and a list of individuals who can provide letters of reference to Dr. James Weiland at firstname.lastname@example.org.
A post-doctoral research fellow position is available at the BioElectronic Vision Laboratory (BEVL) in the Department of Biomedical Engineering. The mission of BEVL is to create and translate technological solutions for visual dysfunction. We investigate the fundamental mechanisms through which implantable and wearable electronic systems interact with the visual system and other sensory modalities, and the long term consequences of such systems on the functional and anatomical organization of the visual system. Based on this understanding, we create and optimize medical devices designed to improve the quality of life for the visually impaired. The main projects in the lab include the bioelectronic retinal prosthesis and wearable smart camera. BEVL is currently funded by the National Eye Institute and the National Science Foundation.
The open position involves measuring responses from rat visual cortex elicited by electrical stimulation of the retina.
The applicant must have a PhD in biomedical engineering, neuroscience, or equivalent and experience measuring response from rat visual cortex. Must be self-motivated, willing to mentor graduate students and undergraduates, and medical students, and have excellent written and oral communication skills.
The ideal candidate will have experience with two-photon microscopy, electrophysiological measurement, small animal handling, and chronic cortical window placement.
