Job Summary

The University of Michigan is seeking a full-time genetic counselor to provide clinical care in the Cancer Genetics Clinic. The individual in this position will work as part of an established team of genetic counselors, clinical geneticists, oncologists, and medical subspecialists. The University of Michigan is a leading center for clinical genetics and genomics and evaluates patients for a broad spectrum of genetic syndromes. The genetic counselor will provide genetic counseling services in clinics served by the Cancer Genetics Clinical Program, including outreach/destination clinics in other locations and specialties. 

The Cancer Genetics Clinic has missions of clinical care, medical education, and research, and is engaged in collaborations with other translational research programs at the University of Michigan.

 

Responsibilities*

The genetic counselor will provide genetic counseling services and clinical care in the Cancer Genetics Clinic. Genetic counselors are involved in education and supervision for trainees, including genetic counseling students, medical students, residents and fellows. While this is a clinical position, there will be ample opportunities for academic growth, including research and teaching.

Required Qualifications*

Qualified candidates will have a Master's degree from a genetic counseling program accredited by the Accreditation Council of Genetic Counseling and will be Board Certified or have Active Candidate status through the American Board of Genetic Counseling or American Board of Medical Genetics. The preferred candidate will have a strong knowledge base in cancer genetics (prior clinical experience is preferred, but not required). We are seeking highly motivated candidates with strong critical-thinking, organizational and communication skills who can work well independently and collaboratively.

Desired Qualifications*

Prior clinical experience in a cancer genetics discipline is preferred but not required.

Work Schedule

40 hours per week, full-time. Hours negotiable and based upon clinical needs.
