Dear Fellow Mathematicians,
The Department of Mathematics and Statistics is hiring student mentors for courses in the calculus sequence as well as precalculus and linear algebra for the upcoming semester. (These are MATH 104, 105, 113, 114, 115, 116, 205, 215, 216, 217, and 227.) This is a paid position that offers experience helping students and an opportunity to work closely with a faculty member with teaching mathematics.
Mentors can expect to work up to 6-8 hours a week during the term. Employment as a mentor can qualify as work study. You may be asked to attend the class you are assigned to, assist with in-class work, hold office hours, give problem sessions or review sessions, assist students one-on-one, grade quizzes and prepare solutions. Your exact schedule and responsibilities will be determined by the instructor of the course you are assigned.
Priority will be given to junior or senior math majors with a GPA of at least 3.0 who have demonstrated strength in the material covered in the course. Outstanding sophomores, or strong candidates who are not math majors, may also be considered. You should be a good communicator and a patient tutor. You should be responsible with recurring tasks and enjoy working with others.
