Responsibilities*

  • Design instrumentation, theoretical models, equipment or other vehicles for data gathering or analysis
  • Investigate, modify and apply new procedures, techniques or application of technology, integrating new findings in field of study
  • Design and perform experiments on genetics and molecular analysis of mutant mice
  • Maintain an active mouse colony, including breeding, tagging/tailing, and genotyping mice
  • Design and apply scientific and numerical models in research
  • Has oversight for development of data collection and instruments
  • Monitor integrity of data collection and use of protocols and procedures
  • Review and critique reports and analysis of other researchers and conduct ongoing, periodic and final analysis of data using specialized techniques and programming
  • Write and collaborate with other researchers on manuscripts, abstracts, technical reports and other publications of research findings
  • Collaborate with other researchers on long-range plan for overall research project acting as expert in specialized area
  • Lead research and project committees
  • Coordinate the analysis of research findings and prepare detailed summaries for submissions to sponsoring agencies
  • Supervise and review the work of undergraduate and graduate students and instruct in methods and procedures necessary to achieve desired goals
  • Present data in local and national meetings
  • Assure compliance with affirmative action and safety programs
  • Analyze, compare and evaluate various courses of action regarding research experiments with the authority to make independent decisions

Required Qualifications*

  • Bachelor's degree in a recognized field of science related to the position
  • Four to five years of related research experience 
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to teach and/or train students, junior laboratory personnel in laboratory techniques and/or protocols
  • Ability to work independently or as a member of our team
  • Excellent attendance, ability to prioritize appropriately and exercise good judgment  
  • Advanced data management and programming skills

Desired Qualifications*

  • Master's or Doctoral Degree in a Biomedical Science related field
  • Demonstrated management experience of professional and support staff
  • Familiarity with University research administration, policies and procedures
