The University of Michigan-Flint seeks a candidate for a joint appointment in The College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) and the School of Education and Human Services (SEHS) for a tenure track faculty position in Science Education. This is an exciting time for teacher education at the University of Michigan-Flint. We have adopted the philosophy of place-based teacher education, which has created increased opportunities for collaboration across the College, School, and the local community. We are working to grow both our elementary and secondary teacher education programs so that we might better respond to the unique needs of the communities of Flint and its surrounding areas, including schools, teachers, and students.

Teach undergraduate courses in science education for both elementary and secondary pre-service teachers, as well as contribute to the core professional courses in secondary education. This includes the capacity to teach - SEC 344 (Teaching Science in Middle and Secondary Schools), SCI 125 (Scientific Inquiry I), SCI 126 (Scientific Inquiry II), and EDE 344 (Teaching Science in the Elementary and Middle School).
Administrative support and coordination of the Integrated Science Teacher Certification Program, which includes advising and assisting with all Michigan Department of Education and accreditation activities
Participate in departmental, college, and school service opportunities
Engage in scholarly research
Earned doctoral degree in Science Education or in Teacher Education with a specialization in Science Education
Minimum of 3 years of K-12 teaching experience
Strong commitment to working with undergraduate students in advising and mentoring
Strong commitment to working in K-12 schools
Commitment to engage in service activities; community outreach; and local, regional, and national professional organizations
Undergraduate or Masters degree in one or more of the sciences (biology, chemistry, physics, earth science, resource science, etc.)
Evidence of desire to engage in collaborative work
Evidence of strong potential for scholarly growth
Successful college/university teaching experience preferred
Commitment to participate in academic program development and leadership opportunities
