Job Summary

Highly motivated individual sought for a position as a Research Technician in a laboratory at the Life Sciences Institute of the University of Michigan. Research projects will involve cell biological investigation of stem cells and germ cells using Drosophila as a model system. Major techniques include Drosophila genetics, microscopy, molecular cloning, and protein affinity purification.

Responsibilities*

Experimental duties will include but are not limited to:

  • Genetic analysis of Drosophila
  • Generation and analysis of transgenic animals
  • Polymerase chain reaction
  • Gel electrophoresis
  • Protein affinity purification
  • Molecular cloning

Non-experimental duties will include but are not limited to:

  • Ordering of supplies and reagents
  • Lab maintenance and organization
  • Basic lab reagents maintenance

Required Qualifications*

Bachelor’s degree, 0-3 years of laboratory experience with molecular biology techniques, and minimum two-year commitment required.

Desired Qualifications*

Experience with genetics model organisms (yeast, C. elegans, Drosophila etc). Experience in molecular cloning, PCR. Basic biochemistry (protein affinity purification, immunoprecipitation etc). Microscopy.

Underfill Statement

This position may be underfilled at a lower classification depending on the qualifications of the selected candidate.   Minimum salary at the Associate level is $28,500.
