Responsibile for alumni relations for the ECE Division of the EECS Department, working closely with chair, department manager, and major gift officer to meet prescribed goals. Responsible for providing a leadership role in recruiting and managing alumni boards and alumni volunteer committees within ECE including overseeing all communications, designing meeting content, preparing materials, coordinating activity and directing volunteer assignments. Work with the communications manager on the development of materials and relevant electronic media. Work with communications staff to maintain department social media for alums including LinkedIn, Facebook, etc. Manage all alumni awards programs.
Conceive, plan, implement and staff all alumni events including seeking sponsorship for these events. Plan, participate and coordinate various alumni events at major conferences across the country. Coordinate the scheduling and planning of activities for the chair and faculty to visit with alums, their corporations and companies. Develop and implement programs for alumni, industries employing our alumni, faculty and student interactions including external mentorship and externships, and external industry interactions. Engage alumni and their companies and non-profits to support various ECE activities, including: innovative learning experiences, summer camps, student engagement activities through sponsorships, corporate visits, student recruiting opportunities for companies, and ECE Career Fair, ECE Graduate Symposium, etc.
Manage ECE’s alumni mentor program. Maintain alumni call center program as well as assist in developing prospective student relationships through the HAIL program. Work with student organization leaders for alumni engagement and fundraising opportunities. Through relationships with alumni, build student recruitment, engagement, and retention programs.
Assist with fundraising in association with ECE Chair and major gift officer, especially in areas not covered by the major gift officer. Manage annual giving program. Meet regularly with colleagues within the College and across campus to coordinate, develop and execute strategies for alumni relations, events, activities and fundraising. Develop and maintain relationships with faculty, administrators, and staff, as well as alumni and student groups.
Perform other duties as required or assigned
A bachelor's degree is required; excellent written and verbal communications skills; ability to draft and edit articles and news features; ability to work collaboratively with colleagues in a team environment; discretion and an ability to interact with donors and the ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality; an ability and willingness to learn the University history, mission, demographics, faculty, current programs, departments, etc., as well as the University culture to be able to persuasively articulate how the Michigan College of Engineering distinguishes itself from peer institutions; 3-5 years of fundraising or alumni relations experience and/or relevant experience in other related fields dealing with a sophisticated audience, handling sensitive information, and executing plans to accomplish a pre-defined goal; proven experience in working with individuals related to philanthropy; experience working and interacting with industries and corporations; strong interpersonal skills are required, as well as a high level of sophistication and maturity in social and professional settings; experience with web software; proven experience managing and running meetings and sharing documents via the web; proven experience preparing high quality presentation documents and materials for a sophisticated audience such as alumni; familiarity with social media outlets; must be willing to work some nights, weekends and travel.
Advanced degree is desirable; close familiarity with and commitment to the University of Michigan and higher education are preferred.
