The applicant will work closely with the PI and senior members in the lab for the design of experiments in the Department of Biologic and Materials Science at the University of Michigan School of Dentistry applying histology, biochemistry and molecular biology skills.
Performing experiments in genomic DNA isolation and genotyping, immunohistochemistry, tissue dissection, processing and paraffin sectioning, microscopy and imaging. Experience in utilizing standard lab equipment.
Maintain mouse colony of approximately 65 cages of which 25 cages are in breeding.
Maintain detailed records of all experiments and data, uploading to online servers. Coordinates data collection and screening and verifies the data. Conducts analysis of data, interprets and implements research methodology (with supervision from the PI and senior research staff).
Coordinate with PI and senior lab personnel to design and perform experiments.
Responsible for maintaining the lab supplies.
Give lab meeting presentations for weekly data updates.
Applicant must have 1 - 2 years of laboratory experience with mouse handling and genotyping, basic histology, light microscopy, basic molecular biology techniques and familiarity with basic laboratory instrumentation. Be able to interpret data collected from experiments, present experimental results, and prepare reports related to assigned projects. Must have strong communication and interpersonal skills. Must be efficient, effective, and able to problem solve and resolve conflicts. Excellent attention to detail and excellent ability to multitask. Experience in using Microsoft Office and Adobe suite software and adept at understanding scientific research. Excellent attendance record and organizational skills.
Bachelor's degree (BS) in Biology, Biochemistry or Molecular Biology. Experience handling mineralized tissues, bone or teeth. Knowledge of University of Michigan policies and procedures.
This position is located in the School of Dentistry at 1210 Eisenhower.
This is a 1 year term-limited 60% appointment position. The actual salary is $18,000- $19,800 a year.
