Two postdoctoral positions are available to join a recently established laboratory in the Department of Pharmacology at the University of Michigan. The laboratory uses advanced optical approaches (including Total-Internal Reflection Fluorescence and super-resolution imaging), electrophysiology, and genetic mouse models to study the molecular mechanisms underlying vesicle trafficking in diverse experimental systems, including neuroendocrine cells and macrophages. In the context of the neurosecretion, the lab investigates the regulation of stress hormone sorting and trafficking at the sympatho-adrenal synapse. In the context of the immune response, the goal is to understand how pathogenic bacteria dysregulate intracellular trafficking pathways to avoid degradation within macrophages. The unifying theme of these studies is the use of sophisticated analytical tools to investigate how intracellular trafficking pathways are controlled in physiological and pathophysiological contexts.
Candidates must hold a Ph.D. and have a strong background in cell and molecular biology.
