Job Summary

The Department of Pediatrics is seeking a full time patient care technical associate for the U of M Comprehensive Eating Disorders Program. This position will provide direct patient care under the direction of a designated supervisor and will primarily be responsible for maintaining the integrity of therapeutic milieu.



  •  Assists in maintaining a safe, orderly & therapeutic environment.
  • Assists with patient enrollment, check-in, orientation to treatment setting, and assists with program activities as assigned.
  • Collects patient vital signs, height and weight measurements and documents these in the electronic medical record. 
  • Assists with coordinating, preparing for, and monitoring meal times for patients and their families.
  • Interacts therapeutically with patients and families while adhering to program treatment model.
  • Provides quality patient care by maintaining knowledge and skill level related to the symptoms and treatment of eating disorders relevant to position responsibilities and in accordance with UMHS regulations.
  • Assists with collection of clinical data for quality improvement and related activities.
  •  Assists with other clinic coverage and duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications*

  • Bachelor's Degree in Social Work, Psychology, Counseling, Child Development or related field.
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills and comfort in working with adolescents, young adults and their families.
  • Willingness to rotate scheduled times based on program hours and needs.
  • Strong written and spoken communication skills.
  • Familiarity working in a multi-disciplinary team environment.
  • Must be willing to participate in therapeutic meals with patients and families while demonstrating healthy and professional boundaries.

Desired Qualifications*

  • Previous experience working with youth with eating disorders and related psychiatric conditions.
  • Strong interest in family based treatments for eating disorders.
  • Proficiency in patient care or health education typically achieved with one or more years of work in a health care setting.
