Job Summary

The University of Michigan, Department of Radiology, seeks qualified applicants for a faculty position to conduct basic and translational research in therapeutic ultrasound and related areas.  

Responsibilities*

The successful applicant must exhibit a strong combination of many of the following characteristics: experimental and instrumentation expertise in therapeutic ultrasound, acoustics, and image guidance; biochemical, physiological, immune, cellular, or molecular response to ultrasound treatment; development and evaluation of treatment and monitoring drugs.   Desirable is a strong background in some combination of ultrasound or MR guided focused ultrasound, electronic & mechanical hardware design and development, software development, basic laboratory research and planning of clinical studies and their analysis. The position entails working with a multidisciplinary team on the development of therapeutic ultrasound systems including our existing Philips Sonalleve MR-guided focused ultrasound platform and their clinical application.  Timely success in obtaining external research funding will be required. This position will enable the candidate to operate within an academic setting with strong interactions with medical and industrial research partners. This position will also enable the candidate to mentor students, residents, postdoctoral fellows, technologists, physicians and other scientists in the laboratory.

Required Qualifications*

The successful candidate should have a M.D./Ph.D. or Ph.D. in Physics, Mechanical, Electrical or Biomedical Engineering, Medicinal Chemistry, Pharmacology, or a related field. Experience and/or graduate training, substantial publications and demonstrated skills in attracting research funding are required.  Skill in mentoring students, residents, postdoctoral fellows, technologists, physicians and other scientists is required.  A record of review service for scientific journals and a national granting agency is desired.
