A total of (2) (1.0 FTE), Advanced Practice Nurses will be hired to fill these two job openings.
Responsibility for clinic management and clinical care in the RAHS School based health centers in Flint Michigan. Provides oversight for professional services at 1 school based health center. Operates with considerable independence and works under general supervision of the RAHS Clinical Manager. Assumes responsibility and accountability for the health care of the student and family populations of a RAHS school based health center. Provide clinical leadership and expertise in the delivery of patient care, health education, and health promotion for the defined patient populations. An ideal candidate would be organized, enjoy working as part of an interdisciplinary team, have the ability to lead and motivate health center staff, and have a passion for working with an adolescent population.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
Patient Care/ Health Promotion and Prevention
- Assess, diagnose and treat health problems for defined patient population.
- Perform health assessments including patient history, physical examinations, diagnostic tests and appropriate interventions or referrals.
- Assess and formulates plan of care related to preventative, acute, and chronic needs identified by the patient and health care team in a manner that provides continuity of care. This includes coordinating care with patients’ primary care physicians (PCP) when identified and identification of an available PCP when one is not currently designated.
- Document patient care and progress and maintain complete and detailed electronic patient records.
- Provide case management services in collaboration with the RAHS Care Manager.
- Provide health education on sexual health, chronic disease management and general wellness.
- Assists with the development and delivery of preventive and health promotion programs for students, families, and the community.
- Supervision of Medical Assistant including interviewing, hiring, training, planning and directing their work, determining productivity and efficiency, handling complaints and discipline and firing.
- Oversight of professional students or volunteers.
- Understand and operationalize school based health programming, funding, requirements, evaluation and reporting.
- Ensure clinical and operational policies, procedures, guidelines and standards are being followed in collaboration with other members of the health center team.
- Assist in the grant process including needs assessment, proposal and budget development, Institutional Review Board applications, evaluation measures and reporting.
- Monitor spending to ensure appropriate purchases and expenditures are within the sites operational budget.
- Oversee program evaluation and continuous quality improvement. This includes the development of outcome indicators, the use of appropriate tools for measuring those outcomes, the reporting and evaluation of outcome data, and making changes based on that data.
- Lead and oversee problem solving around operational issues.
- Monitor productivity, establish priorities, and recommend needed resources.
School and Community Relationship Development
- Develop and foster relationships within the school, ensuring that the SBHC is an integral part of the school culture and climate.
- Participates in and establishes linkages throughout the respective health systems, local school system, community groups, human services groups, and related professional organizations via daily interactions, committee involvement and other appropriate means as workload allows.
Other Duties and Responsibilities
- Serve as a preceptor for GraduateNurses and Nurse Practitioner students.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Administrative supervision is exercised over the school-based health center staff including the medical assistant and other assigned staff who volunteer or assist with health center operations. Functional supervision is exercised over school-based health center site staff including social worker and registered dietitian.
General supervision is received from RAHS Clinical Manager other program leadership including RAHS Director and Director of Community Programs and Services at UMHS.
Functional supervision for the delivery of patient care is received from the center’s medical director or designated physician lead.

Employment is contingent upon successful completion of the credentialing and privileging process.
This NP position does not fall under the contract for UMPNC bargaining unit.

- Licensed to practice nursing in the State of Michigan.
- Master’s degree in Nursing and completion of an accredited Pediatric Primary Care or Family Nurse Practitioner program.
- Certification as an Advanced Practice Nurse in the area of Family Nurse Practitioner or Pediatric Primary Care Nurse Practitioner.
- Excellent interpersonal skills necessary to provide nursing care to patients and families, communicate complex concepts to all levels of personnel and collaborate effectively with other health care team members. Ability to communicate clearly, concisely and appropriately in written and verbal forms.
- Advanced analytical skills to assist in developing and implementing patient care systems, policies and procedures, evaluate outcome of care and develop educational programs.
- Ability to focus and attend to detail when evaluating patient care provided, analyzing program outcome measures and proposing efficient and effective methods of patient care.

- Minimum of three (3) years Advanced Practice Nursing experience with at risk adolescent populations desired.
- Minimum of three (3) years management experience in an ambulatory care setting desired.
- Previous experience supervising staff preferred.
Hours/Shift: 40 hours/week, day shift
Location: The Flint Supervisor/NP positions are for both Kearlsey and Carmen Ainsworth Schools, our new school-based health center sites in Genesee County.
This position has a dual function as the Health Center supervisor and the primary clinician for the health center.
This position is grant-funded.
