This position is in the Blood Bank & Transfusion Service. The technologist will perform pre- and post-transfusion testing on donor and patient blood and process, prepare and issue blood components.
Assess sample suitability, perform routine and STAT testing on patient's blood, including crossmatching and antigen typing. Perform testing on donor blood including retyping and bacterial contamination testing. Perform both automated and manual testing. Select, prepare, manipulate and issue blood components. Communicate with other health care providers. Participate in quality control testing and quality assurance activities. Perform routine antibody studies. Assess blood needs and arrange for procurement of blood components. Prepare donor units for emergency transfusion. Follow all safety requirements and maintain confidentiality.
Bachelor of Science majoring in Medical Technology and completion of a clinical rotation. Registration as a medical technologist or medical laboratory scientist by a certifying agency.
Excellent communication skills with a focus on customer service.
Afternoons, Monday - Friday, rotating weekends, holidays and on-call
