Job Summary

The Transfer Coordinator is responsible for providing transfer students with services and resources designed to ensure greater student success at the University of Michigan-Flint. The Transfer Coordinator reports directly to the EOI College Program Manager.

Although this is a salaried position, it is generally expected that the Assistant Program Manager- Student Success will maintain regular office hours, usually 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.  The position may require some late afternoon and early evening sessions with students. 

 

Responsibilities*

Coordinates the development and implementation of appropriate transfer activities, follow-up activities, and evaluation mechanisms.

Conducts college success workshops focusing specifically on the needs of transfer students in collaboration with academic areas and the Student Success Center.

Works closely with the SSC to design and implement transfer orientation activities.

Disseminates information regarding registration, student success resources, scholarships, financial aid, programs of study, etc.

Track students served; students transferred; students retained; etc. and identify high needs/mid needs/low needs as well as the target area.

Works with the College Program Manger to monitor data and maintain a database of transfer students, analyze data, prepare reports, and respond to inquiries.

Continuously communicates with, tracks progress of and follows-up with transfer students (using a self-developed, organized system) to ensure successful time to degree completion.

Develops and maintains a close working relationship with individuals, departments, and organizations on-campus as well as with various constituencies off-campus, especially community college officials.

Serves as a liaison to campus wide advisors to facilitate communication regarding student progress.

Works with the campus community to design efficient and effective transfer processes.

Develops and maintains a comprehensive and current knowledge of academic resources, policies, and processes for transfer students necessary for the successful completion of undergraduate degrees.

Meets with transfer prospects, applicants, and current students to answer questions regarding their transfer transcripts.

Works with other university officials to develop and refine our articulation agreements with local community colleges and system of transcript evaluation and processing.

Required Qualifications*

A bachelor's degree is required.

Additionally, one or more years of relevant technical or administrative experience working with underrepresented populations in an education setting, or a combination from which comparable knowledge and skills have been acquired.

Strong customer service skills including the ability to respond efficiently and effectively to requests and to use sensitivity and discretion when dealing with multiple stakeholders.

Strong self-motivation, time management, communication, and interpersonal skills.

Broad base of general technical knowledge and a high level of competency in various computer applications including word processing, spreadsheet software, database software and our BANNER student information system.

Attention to detail and the ability to work under pressure

Ability to prioritize and meet deadlines.

Desired Qualifications*

Two years of experience working with transfer students in an advising, outreach, or registrar’s office in a post-secondary institution.

Strong value and concern for individual student outreach and campus partnerships to streamline ease of access to support resources. 

Experience and knowledge of transfer process at large (key deadlines; processes), evaluate transcripts for goal setting purposes, and comfort in referring students to get formal advisement with admissions/transfer center at community college.

Additionally, this is a full-time, 12-month at-will administrative position with benefits.
