A total of one(1), 1.0 FTE, Advanced Practice Professional (either NP or PA) will be hired to fill this job opening.

Responsibilities*

50% Provide expert clinical care to adult patients and their families in the Internal Medicine Assisted Ventilation Clinic (AVC).  Assesses, plans, implements and evaluates all options and services with the goal of optimizing the patient's health status.  Integrates evidence based clinical guidelines and protocols in the development of individualized care plans that are patient-centric.  Provides targeted interventions to avoid hospitalization and emergency room visits.  Coordinates care across settings and helps patient/families understand health care options.  Provides educational experiences for health care professionals. Participates in the development, implementation, evaluation and outcome monitoring of clinical care provision.
 
50% Same as above, with a focus on other (non-ventilator dependent) sub-specialty pulmonary patients within the outpatient clinic setting as needed.

Employment is contingent upon successful completion of the credentialing and privileging process.

Required Qualifications*

NP:
  • Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in Michigan.
  • Current specialty certification as a Nurse Practitioner in the State of Michigan.
  • Graduate of Accredited Nurse Practitioner program as an Adult Acute Care, Adult-Gero or Family Nurse Practitioner. 
  • Certification as a Nurse Practitioner recognized by the National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN).
PA:
  • Current license to practice as a Physician Assistant in the State of Michigan.
  • Certification by the National Commission on Certification for Physician Assistants (NCCPA).
  • Satisfactory completion of a physician assistant program accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA), or one of its predecessor agencies, CAHEA or CAAHEP.  
 
Required Qualifications-NP/PA:  
  • Current ACLS and BLS certification.
  • Ability to efficiently and effectively manage multiple clinical tasks.
  • Able to communicate effectively (oral and written).
  • Able to meet all credentialing requirements necessary to obtain required privileges of service.
  • Knowledge of chronic conditions, evidence based guidelines and health risk assessment.  
  • Ability to implement evidence base interventions and protocols for chronic conditions.
  • Ability to affect change, work as a productive and effective team member, and adapt to changing needs/priorities.
  • Excellent time management skills.
  • General computer knowledge and capability to use computer
  • Critical thinking skills and ability to analyze complex data sets. 
  • Ability to manage complex clinical issues utilizing excellent assessment skills and protocols.  
  • Ability to implement evidence base interventions and protocols for chronic conditions. 
  • Demonstrated excellent attendance and punctuality.
  • Demonstrates excellent organizational skills with attention to detail.
  • Demonstrates professionalism, consideration and confidentiality towards others in stressful situations.
  • Demonstrates excellent communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills.

Desired Qualifications*

  • At least one year in the last five years caring for adult patients whose primary diagnosis being treated is severe neurological/neuromuscular disorder, e.g. spinal cord injury, ALS or recent experience caring for adult patients in an ICU setting including careing for patients on ventilators. 
  • At least one year NP or PA experience in an Ambulatory Care setting.
  • One year of experience as a NP or PA in an adult outpatient setting performing typical emergency procedures including, but not limited: to suturing, lumbar puncture, splinting, wound care, fracture care.
  • Experience with complex case management in home care.
  • The provider must demonstrate a high level of critical thinking and medical knowledge by using current medical information and scientific evidence for patient care.
  • Demonstrate ability to prioritize assignments and manage a busy work environment.
  • Demonstrate ability to collaborate clinical care ideas across multiple patient care services and to communicate assertively as a patient advocate.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to carrying out professional responsibilities, adherence to ethical principles and sensitivity to diversity

 

Work Schedule

Hours/Week = 40
Shift/Hours/Days:  Monday through Friday
Location: Taubman Center- Internal Medicine Pod C - Assisted Ventilation Clinic (AVC).

This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the Michigan Nurses Association and the U-M Professional Nurse Council union, which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours and other terms and conditions of employment.
