The University of Michigan Medical School is seeking interested and experienced analysts to join the Medical School Finance team. This position will focus on data analytics, and the individual accepting this role will be a key player in expanding these capabilities at the Medical School and across Michigan Medicine in order to assist leadership with data-driven strategic decisions. The primary customers for this role include Michigan Medicine leadership, Medical School leadership, and other departments.
Reporting through the Medical School’s Associate Chief Financial Officer (ACFO), candidates for this position are expected to thoroughly understand the data environment, conduct current and new data analysis, create series of standard reports based on analytics, and serve as innovators in developing new ways to analyze and present data to leadership. Candidates should be able to function independently, deliver projects in a timely and effective manner, and enjoy creating new and novel solutions
What a Typical Day Will Look Like
As a Business Analyst, a typical day will likely include:
A combination of time spent working individually with data extraction and analysis, as well as time spent working collaboratively with the broader analytics team on deliverables and serving customers
Engaging with the University’s information technology department on data, definitions, and ETL processes
Working in Tableau creating new reports and deliverables that meet active business needs, as well as exploring new ways of showing data and information (that customers and leadership potentially do not know is feasible/needed)
Interacting with customers to discover what their business needs are, how data analytics can assist those need, and presenting alternative solutions to improve the business and better support strategic goals and decisions
Creating and implementing the needs and solutions outlined in the prior bullet point
Researching trends in the industry as well as best practices from other academic medical centers in order to move Michigan Medicine into a position of being the leader amongst academic medical centers

Bachelor’s degree in Information Science, Business Administration, or equivalent
Experience with query writing software, querying relational databases, applying business process/data modeling, database design, and other analytical tools/techniques surrounding business and financial analysis
Experience in data manipulation and extraction techniques, data modeling, and data presentation and visualization
Knowledge of and/or experience in Microsoft Office Suite (specifically Excel) and Tableau
Strong communication skills (both oral and written), and the ability to analyze large amounts of complex information to present simple and concise material to the appropriate audience
Master’s degree in Information Science, Business Administration, or equivalent
Interest in finance and/or the healthcare industry
Advanced analytical, modeling, and data visualization skills within Tableau
Experience in designing dashboards
Demonstrated proficiency in SQL, querying tools, and translating business needs into technical solutions
Experience in Business Objects, PeopleSoft, Oracle, and/or Hyperion
8am - 5pm
