The University of Michigan School of Medicine, Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences is seeking outstanding candidates for a tenure-track faculty position. Successful candidates will be expected to establish an independent research program in Visual Sciences with a primary appointment in the Department of Ophthalmology and a joint appointment in an appropriate basic science department such as Molecular and Integrative Physiology or Cell and Developmental Biology. Applicants focused on all areas of vision research will be evaluated with particular consideration given to those studying neuronal development and regeneration/ restoration, neuro-inflammation related to blinding eye diseases, and systems biology related to the retinal neurovascular unit.
The candidate will be expected to participate in Research and Graduate Education as well participating in the Departmental efforts in education in ophthalmology and visual sciences. Additional teaching duties may be associated with a joint appointment in a basic science department.

Successful candidates will have a PhD and/or MD degree, or equivalent, in areas as described above. Documentation of scholarly ability and achievement (record of publications in peer-reviewed journals; record of acquisition of external funding for research programs, detailed research plan, collaborative research experience) is expected. Preferred candidate will have a demonstrated interest in graduate and post-doctoral education and possess the critical elements of teaching (knowledge of subject matter, skill in presentation, enthusiastic approach, etc.). Evidence of competence in teaching is expected.
The position is posted as Assistant Professor/Associate Professor/Professor and is full-time. Academic rank and salary are commensurate with experience and academic credentials.
