The Maintenance - Regions Department, part of the University of Michigan's Facilities & Operations, is seeking to hire a temporary roofer to begin work in April. To fabricate, repair and maintain building roof surfaces, inspect and maintain roof areas, and apply waterproofing.
***This temporary position will not exceed 150 work days.
Apply to new roofs all types of hot built-up roofing, cold process roofing, slate, tile and gravel. Repair or replace hot built-up smooth surface roofs, gravel roofs, slate and tile roofs, shingle roofs, skylights and cornices. Cut and fit materials around pipes, chimneys and other roof obstructions. Apply and repair composition shingles and siding. Caulk flashing reglets and cement joints in copings, skylights and metal window frames. Waterproof bathrooms, shower rooms, cold rooms, basement floors, outside walls above and below grade, and driveways over basement rooms. Melt tar or pitch, and raise materials of roof level. Inspect all roofs of new buildings constructed for the University of Michigan. Assist foreman in training new roofers. Clean, gutters, roof drain, fans, air washers, fan rooms, and tunnels. Paint metal roofs, metal ridges, skylights, eaves troughs and conductors. Prepare records and service reports of materials and time expended.
Graduation from high school. Ability to perform strenuous tasks under adverse weather conditions. Several years of experience in the fabrication and repair of roof surfaces. Ability to exercise judgement concerning safety requirements for working in high places. Reasonable knowledge of the tools, methods and procedures used in roofing. Some knowledge of the maintenance requirements of roof surfaces. Candidate must have a valid driver license.
A Journeyman Roofer is preferred.
