Job Summary

The University of Michigan Dearborn Business Affairs division has an exciting opportunity available as a business affairs senior manager.  This role, which reports to the vice chancellor for business affairs, will support business affairs strategic goals and projects, organizational effectiveness efforts and operational needs in collaboration with the vice chancellor and business affairs directors.  Additionally, this position will provide business planning and analysis and will assist with change management initiatives supporting our strategy implementation and projects and assignments throughout the division.

The Business Affairs division leads the business operations of the university through the following units: human resources, financial services, facilities operations and public safety.  We have approximately 110 staff members in these four units, which includes approximately 30 leaders.  Our vision has three strategic pillars to build our high performing goals and change initiatives around:  data-driven decision making, positive culture and financial health and leveraging.  As a student-centered university, we will constantly strive to be our best in everything we do, and as a leadership team furthering strong customer service and a positive culture where all staff can perform at their best. 

Responsibilities*



  • As part of the leadership team, participate in annual strategic planning and priority setting for the division;


  • Help leaders implement business affairs strategic goals and priorities, supporting the business affairs vision;


  • Assess organizational effectiveness and provide analysis and recommendations for best practices;


  • Provide business planning analysis and reports, closely aligned with our strategic pillars;


  • Provide support and analysis for operational response and emergency preparedness initiatives and activities;


  • Help implement and facilitate organizational change efforts;


  • Further positive leadership integration through our positive culture initiatives;


  • Special projects and duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications*



  • At least 5 years of progressive related experience and a bachelor’s degree required, M.B.A or related graduate degree preferred;


  • Highly organized and demonstrated ability in project management;


  • Strategic thinking, planning, and implementation skills;


  • Ability to assess competing priorities, manage workflow and meet deadlines;


  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills and the demonstrated ability to build consensus among a multi-unit stakeholder base;


  • Ability to work in and thrive in a fast-paced, complex organization


  • Adept in the use of data management software and analysis;


  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative and implement goals, projects, and change management activities;


  • Ability to demonstrate creativity and strong critical thinking in work tasks and assignments;


  • Ability to work both collaboratively as part of a team, and independently in a dynamic environment with multiple and sometimes conflicting priorities.
