Job Summary

Basic Function and Responsibility:  To work as part of a team to assist in the development, implementation and monitoring of clinical services for outpatient pediatric and adult infusion units in the C.S. Mott Children's and Women's Hospital; to ensure and promote the safe, rational, efficacious and cost-effective use of drug therapy in patients under the care of our pediatric and adult services; to provide leadership for clinical services including developing guidelines and policies, staff training activities, developing quality improvement processes, and to assist in the clinical training of staff, residents and students.

Responsibilities*

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist in the development, implementation and monitoring of clinical pharmacy practices consistent with the Health Systems needs and objectives.
  • Provide distributive pharmacy services including but not limited to product verification, order verification, chemotherapy first and second verification, assessing potential medication interactions and allergies, chemotherapy protocol review and sterile IV admixture preparation in a clean room environment including chemotherapy and biologic medications.
  • Provide pharmaceutical care by: active participating in multidisciplinary rounds; designing, implementing and monitoring patient-specific pharmacotherapy, including pharmacokinetic support, nutrition support and anticoagulation management; and documenting pharmaceutical care activities.
  • Assist in the development of staff educational and training programs within and relating to the pediatric service line.
  • Actively participate in the training of staff, residents, and students from the College of Pharmacy.
  • Lead drug use projects, cost reduction/management initiatives, and quality improvement activities consistent with the Health Systems needs and objectives.
  • Individual or collaborative scholarly/research activity is encouraged.
  • Provide drug information and education to patients and caregivers.
  • Assist in the development and review of chemotherapy order sets.
  • Participate in UMHS committee(s) related to the care of adult and pediatric patients.
  • Local and National Professional Organization Involvement is encouraged.

Required Qualifications*

  • A Doctor of Pharmacy degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience is necessary.
  • Licensure as a Pharmacist by the State of Michigan is necessary.
  • Possession of a state controlled substance license is necessary.


Other:

  • Ability to perform a variety of manual dexterity movements, including keyboarding and IV preparation, actively participate in codes. Fluency in reading, writing and speaking English.
