Responsibilities*

Acute Hemodialysis Unit 

Independently and completely performs focused assessment of dialysis patients to provide the most effective patient care. Assess, monitor, report and manage significant changes in a patient's condition/status, including responses to medications and treatments. Provide nursing care to patients including the administration of medications and treatments ordered and assist with interventional procedures. Document patient care, including changes in patient's status. Identify problems presented by patients and families and initiate appropriate interventions. To provide nursing advice and consultation and act as a resource to other health care team members. Individualizes communication based on the assessment of the patients and families. Independently set up, prime, initiate, manage/monitor and terminate specialized renal therapies (including Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy) in multiple clinical settings (ICU, ER, OR, etc). Assist physicians with sterile procedures for acute line placements. To accept on call as assigned. To maintain clinical expertise within this unique renal failure patient population by seeking out additional learning experiences within specialized renal therapies. Participate in ensuring patient safety. Assist in research studies and quality assurance activities. Provide pre-op assessment of patients undergoing procedures in the Interventional Nephrology Unit. Provide care for patients having biopsies (including renal and fat pad) in the Interventional Nephrology Unit.

Salary & Nursing Framework Level:
This UMPNC RN posting is posted as Nursing Framework LEVEL C, including B.
Actual Nursing Framework LEVEL and salary will be determined at time of hire.
Nursing Framework levels range from Level A to Level E.

Required Qualifications*

Current license to practice in the State of Michigan. 

Minumun one (1) year of recent acute care experience.

Current telemetry experience.

Proficient computer skills, including experience with Microsoft excel.

On call and weekend commitment

Excellent, communication and inter-personal skills

Ability to multi-task and work effectively in routine and emergent situations

Ability to push, lift and move heavy equipment multiple times per day. Ability to lift, move and position patients.

Positive, can –do attitude, strong team player.

Desired Qualifications*

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree
  • ACLS
  • Current experience with conscious sedation administration and monitoring.
  • Pre-and post-op experience.
  • Demonstrated participation in continuous quality improvement process with documented results

Work Schedule

Appointment: 20 hours per week
Shift/Hours/Days: Afternoon shift, starting time may vary between 1200 – 1330
Requires rotation of on call coverage, weekends and holidays
