Provides health care services, applying x-ray energy to assist in diagnosis or treatment.  Performs radiographic procedures and related techniques, produces images for the interpretation by or at the request of a licensed practitioner. Exercises professional judgment in performance of services and maintains a demeanor complementary to medical ethics. Provides appropriate patient care and recognizes patient conditions essential for successful completion of the procedures.

1.  Performs Diagnostic Procedures
  • Corroborates patient’s clinical history with procedure, assuring information is documented and available for use by a licensed practitioner.
  • Positions patients using appropriate radiation protection devices and immobilizing techniques for age specific patient populations.
  • Applies principles of radiation protection to a minimize exposure to patient, self and others.
  • Positions patient to best demonstrate anatomic area of interest, while respecting patient’s ability and comfort.
  • Selects and operates appropriate radiographic equipment according to established protocols.
  • Evaluates images for technical quality, assuring proper identification is recorded.
  • Assists radiologist with fluoroscopic and radiographic procedures.
2.  According to departmental protocols identifies and prepares contrast media under the direction of a Radiologist.
3.  Practices aseptic techniques.
4.  Maintains knowledge of and observes Universal precautions.
5.  Understands and applies Guest Relations skills and displays excellent customer services skills and maintains patient confidentiality.


Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications*

  1. Maintains current BCLS Certification.
  2. Certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technology or its equivalent in Radiology is required.
  3. Maintains current ARRT registration

Desired Qualifications*

Previous orthopedics experience a plus

Work Schedule

Normal shift will be days, afternoons, day/evening rotation.

During orientation - 40 hour weeks will be necessary.

Background Screening

Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings.  Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act.
