- Directly responsible to the Manager of Quality Analytics
- Provides instruction and direction to Quality Analytics team members as well as to larger Quality dept
- Maintains collaborative team-focused relationships with support, clinical and administrative staff within the Michigan Medicine and external agencies as appropriate
- Conducts analysis of proposed and enacted federal regulations, legislation and programs from the perspective of impact on Michigan Medicine.
- Develops expertise in assigned subject areas and provides recommendations to leadership regarding formal policy interpretations and implementation requirements.
- Monitors external communications for impactful announcements that can influence program interpretations and readiness efforts.
- Strong interest in federal health policy that is put into action to guide Michigan Medicine decisions
- On assigned projects scopes the work and outlines needed steps and timelines to structure the team's work to a successful conclusion
- Supports completion of regular, defined tasks required for program participation such as progress reports, data submissions, etc.
- Supports and/or leads meetings to review ongoing work and make decisions for future activity
- Produces charters, updates, and other documentation to outline progress and successes
- Leads the planning and prioritization of development efforts and key milestones, and coordinates with other team members and analytic staff
- Conducts regular assessments of project status and identifies barriers to completion and strategies solutions
- Follows all appropriate security and compliance guidelines to safeguard data assets and protected health information (PHI)
- Assists in the development of internal and external communications regarding assigned federal policy issues and pay for performance programs.
- Work collaboratively with major stakeholders across the Quality Department units, HITS, and Michigan Medicine units.
- Facilitates discussions, collaborates with internal and external sponsors and develops presentations and reports.
- Utilizes basic analytics tools to produce data products in support of assigned projects.
- Bachelor's Degree in Political Science, Economics, Health Care Policy or related area.
- Minimum of Five (5) years experience in at least one subject area: healthcare data/payor analysis, health care policy analysis, economics, legislative/congressional experience.
- Strong understanding of the health care industry, including health care reform and trends, quality and performance management, inpatient and outpatient operations, finance, etc.
- Excellent collaboration, interpersonal, meeting facilitation, presentation, written, listening, and verbal communication skills
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with internal and external stakeholders including other analysts, clinicians, and federal/state/payer program representatives.
- Demonstrated ability to analyze information and present in an understandable fashion to groups.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and with a high degree of creativity.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving ability
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
- Flexibility to adapt to a changing environment
- Master's Degree in related field such as economics, political science, health care policy, public health or community health care preferred.
- Experience in an analytical and policy environment
- Experience with reporting and analytic tools (e.g., SAS, Excel, Tableau, MS Access)
- Understanding of Healthcare quality measurement and improvement
- Experience with Process Improvement methods such as PDCA, Lean, etc.
