This individual will support the mission of continuing the development of a well-funded and productive research program by providing pre- and post-award grant support to faculty and trainees in the Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery.
Pre-award responsibilities include assisting faculty and trainees in the development, preparation, and timely submission of grant and contract proposals to various sponsors including NIH, DoD, NSF, foundations and industry as well as internal sponsors. Activities include budget preparation, PAF submissions via eResearch, prepapring forms required by sponsor, and ensuring applicaitons meet sponsor, Medical School and University deadlines and guidelines.
- Review and adhere to proposal submission guidelines
- Navigate through various on-line proposal submission systems
- Develop budgets and budget justifications
- Prepare intricate proposal submission packages
- Review all proposal and support materials for compliance with policies, regulations and procedures
- Coordinate with other collaborating institutions, departments, Medical School Office of Research and UM Office of Research and Sponsored Projects to ensure timely submission to sponsors
- Maintain documents for proposals
- Prepare all types of Unfunded Agreements in eResearch
- Prepare information for just-in-time requests
- Manage and meet multiple, overlapping deadlines
- Stay abreast of new regulations and changing requirements
- Post-award responsibilites include assisting faculty with progress reports, establishing subcontracts to other institutions, and assisting faculty with post award change requests including re-budgetng and extensions.
- Create and/or provide information for progress reports, subcontracts, renewals and close-out activities
- Investigate and resolve project issues
- Prepare responses to inquiries.
- Provide support to the Research Process Senior Manager as needed. Other duties as assigned.
Bachelor's degree in finance, business administration, or related field is required. At least two years of experience directly related to pre-award research activities in an academic/administrative setting for higher education is required. Successful candidate must be motivated with a positive attitude and strong commitment to exceptional customer service. Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to maintain confidential information. Must have a demonstrated ability to prioritize, complete tasks in a timely manner, and work under pressure of multiple deadlines. Must possess problem solving skills and exceptional organizational skills with meticulous attention to detail. Must have a demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team. Requires strong computer skills including proficiency with MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Adobe PDFs.
Experience preparing NIH and DoD proposals, contracts, clinical trials, foundation grants, as well as NIH training or other large grant proposals is strongly preferred. Familiarity and experience with University administrative and business tools such as M-Pathways, M-Reports, Business Objects and eResearch. Knowledge of University and various UM school/college policies and processes.
Shift/Hours/Days: 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday; some occasional weekend and/or evening hours may be required.
