Within the coding unit, plan, manage, and coordinate the daily activities of a multi-specialty surgical coding group.
Provide expert knowledge and analysis of coding rules and payer regulations for both physician and facility billing. Develop and implement coding policies & procedures and institute system enhancements to ensure complaint coding and revenue optimization. Provide month end coding performance data to Coding Director. Work with billing personnel to analyze CMS and Medicaid regulations in an effort to maintain compliance with payer requirements.
Management duties include interview, select, and train employees; plan and direct coder workload; evaluate performance, specifically coder accuracy and productivity; and research complex coding scenarios.
Manager is expected to participate as an active member of Lean Thinking in daily work initiatives and to model and support a culture of service excellence and servant leadership. Incumbent must safeguard the confidentiality of health records and the information therein as mandated by law, professional standards and Michigan Medicine policies.
- CPC/CCS/RHIT/RHIA certification
- Associate degree or equivalent coding management experience
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to analyze, problem solve and work independently
- Bachelor Degree
- Prior surgery coding experience
- Prior health care management experience
