Job Summary

The Information and Technology Services (ITS) organization at the University of Michigan-Dearborn has an exciting opportunity for an Applications Systems Analyst/Programmer in the Business Applications team. The Applications Systems Analyst/Programmer will use a variety of cutting-edge technologies and collaborate with various groups (customers and technical resources), to address the evolving needs of the university.

Assignments will vary in a fast-paced, supportive and collegial environment. Projects may include the development of custom applications, implementing and upgrading 3rd party applications, system interfaces between various enterprise applications and business intelligence projects.

Flexibility, willingness to learn new skills and techniques and a passion for customer service are key attributes of the successful candidate. We are looking for someone with effective communication skills and a history of providing quality service in collaborating with, supporting, advising and educating customers and team members on the development and use of applications, handling of sensitive data, and resolving incidents. 

Working under the direction and guidance of the ITS Business Application team leadership, the person in this position will be responsible for:

  • Business requirement discovery and documentation
  • Software application functional and technical design
  • Programming, testing and debugging
  • Troubleshooting and maintenance of production systems

The ideal candidate will be motivated to learn new technologies, solve problems and help the team add value to the university.

Technologies include Java, HTML5, JavaScript, Grails, SQL, Oracle databases, Raspberry Pi, WebFOCUS, workflow and other programming languages.  The team also supports various packaged applications including Banner Student Information System, Salesforce, Informatica, Degree Works, ImageNow and others.

The minimum salary for this position will start at $54,000 annually and will commensurate with experience.  The actual salary offered may be higher based on the qualifications and experience of the selected candidate.

Required Qualifications*

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience Programming, testing and debugging.
  • Experience with SQL and other programming/scripting language.
  • Experience supporting and integrating enterprise applications.
  • Ability to learn and apply new and emerging technologies.
  • Ability to interact effectively and professionally with faculty, staff, and students.
  • Ability to work well with other technical staff.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • The candidate must be eligible to work in the United States.

Desired Qualifications*

  • Knowledge and experience with business intelligence reporting tools.
  • Experience developing and supporting mission critical, enterprise software applications, such as:
    • Banner student information system or comparable application
    • DegreeWorks or similar degree-audit systems
    • WebFocus or similar enterprise business intelligence framework
    • ImageNow or similar imaging / document management systems
  • Experience with common development tools, such as Eclipse and Git.
