The Department of Social Sciences has an opportunity for qualified applicants to teach POL 306, Political Ideologies, for the Fall 2017 semester. The course is scheduled to meet on Monday and Wednesday from 9:30-10:45 am.
Political Ideologies is an upper-level undergraduate political theory course. The course is an examination of significant modern ideologies, especially liberalism, conservatism, and radicalism, in the light of the relation between the history of political thought and watershed political movements. This appointment is for one semester only beginning September 1, 2017-December 31, 2017.
Instructional duties include the usual expectations of teaching at the undergraduate level. These include but are not limited to: the preparation of lectures and other classroom activities; development of assignments, such as exams and papers; evaluation of students' coursework; holding regularly scheduled office hours. It is expected that the course curriculum will feature a substantial writing component.
At a minimum, candidates should hold an MA in political science specializing in political theory or political philosophy and demonstrate competence in the history of political thought. Demonstrated record of excellence in teaching political theory courses is also required.
This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the Lecturers Employee Organization, AFL-CIO, which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours and other terms and conditions of employment.
