Job Summary

This position is responsible for administering vaccinations, per established protocols, based on clinical processes, and vaccine manufacturer guidelines at flu clinics provided throughout the community.  Flu Clinics are provided at various locations in Wayne, Washtenaw, Livingston and Lenawee counties. 

This position is temporary.  Interested applicants should apply if they are reasonably confident they will be available to work September - December.  The number of hours available varies per week based on programmatic needs.  Program runs 7 days per week, however most work is on weekdays between 8am-5pm.

Hourly wage: $12.00 /hour

Responsibilities*

In cooperation with, and under the direction of the on-site RN, the Medical Assistant:

  • Under the direction of a registered nurse, administers vaccinations to patients according to clinical processes. 
  •  Assists RN in managing the clinic site, works in collaboration with the clinic team, and monitors clinic supplies/inventory.
  • Assists with set-up and break down of clinic area.
  •  Refers to the Clinic Notebook (containing the signed physicians order for vaccine immunizations and emergency treatment as well as all protocols and procedures) as needed.   
  •  Confirms that all systems are in place before beginning to see patients.

 

Required Qualifications*

  • Successful completion of a Medical Assistant Program
  • Six months of experience as a Medical Assistant or equivalent
  • Ability to work efficiently in a non-structured environment
  • Must exhibit a professional and positive image when interacting with patients, families and staff
  • Adhere to high standard of personal and professional conduct
  • Possess excellent customer service, interpersonal skills, and communication skills
  • Demonstrate the ability to interact with a diverse population
  • Must be able to work effectively with a multidisciplinary team and in a fast paced environment
  • Ability to travel from point A to point B throughout the workday as assigned.
  • Must comply with all Michigan Medicine Occupational Health requirements including annual flu immunization.

Physical Demands:

The employee will be able to perform the assigned duties and responsibilities with or without reasonable accommodations: ability to work in a sedentary position for long periods of time, ability to communicate/ exchange information, fine motor coordination/dexterity necessary for keyboarding or typing, and may require reaching, bending, twisting, stooping, moving about, lifting of up to 25 pounds, etc., with or without the use of assistive/adaptive devices.

Desired Qualifications*

  • Two years Medical Assistant experience
  • Experience in a clinic setting
  • Effective organizational and leadership skills
