The Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) Office seeks an organized and efficient individual to perform a variety of professional and administrative duties in support of the day to-day operations of the Office. This office reports within the Office of the Vice President for Communications and fulfills the University of Michigan’s legal responsibilities to provide documents when requested under the Freedom of Information Act. This person would report to the Freedom of Information Act officer to assist with the effective, timely and thorough compliance with requests for documents concerning University of Michigan business. The person would retrieve records, and with the Freedom of Information officer, evaluate various courses of action and interpret and analyze information to ensure that responses are complete and accurate. This person would maintain a database and produce reports of results to executives.
This position requires 2-3 years administrative support experience. Employees in this classification typically analyze, compare and evaluate various courses of action and have the authority to make independent decisions on matters of significance, free from immediate direction, within the scope of their responsibilities. Primary activities and decision- making authority are predominantly performed independently affecting business operations to a substantial degree. Under FLSA, incumbents in this position meet the criteria for exempt status.
