Howell Health Center is seeking a part-time (16-hours, 0.4 FTE) Clinical Social Worker for their fast-paced clinic in which the patient population is composed of infant, pediatric, and adolescent patients with medical and/or psychiatric diagnoses.
The social worker will provide bio-psychosocial assessments, treatment and case management services to patients and their families who have been referred for social work services by clinic providers. Both face-to-face and telephone work are integral to this position. Strong behavioral health training and experience is required to provide efficient, accurate evaluation of mental health needs, brief psychotherapeutic interventions using evidence-based treatment modalities, and group facilitation of manualized treatment groups such as CBT, DBT, Social Skills Training, and Anger Management. Crisis intervention, safety planning, parent guidance, grief counseling, case management services and community referrals will be provided. T his position requires excellent verbal and written communication skills, ability to quickly develop therapeutic relationships with a diverse patient population of children and adults. Excellent organizational skills, proficiency with computer and electronic health records, maintaining accurate and timely clinical records, exercising independent decision-making and critical thinking skills, participation in team meetings, and the ability to effectively prioritize multiple competing tasks are all critical skills for success in this position. It is essential that the candidate be able to handle a large caseload and be able to provide high-level therapeutic interventions while also meeting basic tangible and concrete needs.
A Master's degree (MSW) in social work from a school accredited by the Council of Social Work Education is necessary. Candidates must have a current clinical license (LMSW) to practice social work in the State of Michigan, with clinical certification. LLMSWs will not be considered for this position. Experience providing bio-psychosocial assessments, brief evidence-based psychotherapies, crisis intervention, grief counseling, case management and care coordination, community referrals, and the ability to facilitate patient and family participation in appropriate health care decision making are required. Effective written and verbal communication skills and clinical experience with pediatric and/or adolescent patients are necessary. It is essential that the candidate be able to manage a large caseload with multiple competing demands. The ability to prioritize and work independently in a variety of demanding situations is necessary; critical decision making, excellent assessments, effective brief interventions, and multi-tasking are only several of the advanced skills required for success in this position.
The ideal candidate will have significant medical and behavioral social work experience, strong assessment skills, familiarity with the DSM-5 and pediatric psychiatric diagnoses, and the ability to establish therapeutic relationships quickly with pediatric patients and their families. Familiarity with the Livingston County population and community resources is desirable. It is essential that the candidate be able to manage a large caseload with multiple competing demands. Flexibility, ability to rapidly adapt, creative problem solving, excellent communication skills, the ability to work effectively with a multidisciplinary team, and the ability to access community resources are all qualities that will contribute to success in this position. Certification by the Academy of Certified Social Workers (ACSW) is desirable.
This is a 16-hour (0.40 FTE) position with work hours from 8:00-4:30 or 8:30-5:00 on Tuesdays and Thursdays. This position will report to the Social Work Department with matrix reporting to the Howell Health Center Clinic Manager and Medical Director.
This position may be underfilled at a lower classification depending on the qualifications of the selected candidate. Advancement through the career ladder at the Expert or Clinical Scholar Level is required for placement in the MSW Senior Classification
