Course Description

SAC 352-Film History:Origins-French New Wave introduces students to the history of cinema from its technological and cultural origins in the late nineteenth century to the global impact of the French New Wave. The objectives are to orient students to a wide range of cinema, establish the relationships between films from different aesthetic, industrial, and national contexts, and illuminate the development of narrative form and film style.

Responsibilities*

Duties will include, but are not limited to:

  • Evaluating and grading course work
  • Holding regular office hours to assist students throughout the course
  • Being available over email to the students, and helping students in case they have any questions pertaining to the course
  • Attending all lectures and film screenings for the course (MW, 4-5 pm) and screensing (Monday, 6:30-9 pm).
  • Teaching two discussion sections per week (Tuesdays; 3-4 pm and 4-5 pm).

Required Qualifications*

Currently enrolled as a graduate student at the University of Michigan. Ability to effectively teach and evaluate undergraduate students. Knowledge of the course topic.

Desired Qualifications*

Background and knowledge relevant to film/television/media studies.

Decision Making Process

After review of applications, the decision will be made by the Director of Graduate Studies. Final decisions will be made by department upon recommendation of the instructor. Decision making date by July 12, 2017.

Selection Process

Selection criteria include background and experience explicit to the topic of the course. Estimated date for offer to be extended: byJuly 12, 2017. Applicants may request the status of their application from the department at any time.
