Job Summary

Analyze requirements and develop online applications to support the mission of the University of Michigan DNA Sequencing Core, using computer languages such as MS-SQL, Perl, Java, Javascript and Linux. 

Responsibilities*

Development is in an online environment, and will involve database design, manipulation, and upkeep. 
Respond to trouble tickets. 
Repair existing code as needed. 
Modify database entries to maintain database integrity. 
Prepare support documentation on applications code, suitable for a subsequent developer to maintain the program. 
Instruct laboratory workers on how to use developed applications and how to resolve problems and issues.

Required Qualifications*

Bachelor’s degree in computer science, with emphasis on software development. A minimum of 3 years’ experience as a web developer in the MS-SQL/Linux/Perl/CGI environment, database experience, agile development practices and software repositories are required.  Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English are required, as well as critical analytical thinking and the ability to work well as a member of a large team. Successful candidate must be willing to work in a fast paced, agile development environment to complete tasks in a timely manner. A can-do approach is expected through teamwork and sharing of knowledge with DNA sequencing IT and laboratory staff. Project based work assignments will require candidate to pair up with others to perform business analysis and complete projects.

Desired Qualifications*

Knowledge of Javascript and associated frameworks (such as jQuery, React or Node) and experience in a high-throughput production laboratory are highly desired.
