Job Summary

The Office of the Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (ODEI) at the University of Michigan is seeking an experienced web developer to design, code, deploy, and maintain websites for the ODEI and reporting units. ODEI is seeking candidates who desire the flexibility of a part-time position and the satisfaction of contributing to a diverse web presence at the University of Michigan. The ODEI web developer will work approximately 28-36 hours per week under the direction of the Marketing and Communications Manager. The work of this position will help effectively build relationships with U-M audiences and engage faculty, staff, students and external stakeholders.

Responsibilities*

  • Develop, design, and code web pages using a variety of software applications, techniques, and tools on the WordPress platform
  • Execute all visual design stages from concept to final hand-off
  • Meet with clients to discuss requirements and/or project progress
  • Create wireframes, storyboards, user flows, process flows and/or site maps to effectively communicate interaction and design ideas
  • Conceptualize original ideas that bring simplicity and user friendliness to complex design roadblocks
  • Follow University design guidelines, best practices and standards

Required Qualifications*

  • Minimum 3 years of professional experience
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Web Design, Graphic Design or related field
  • Advanced knowledge and understanding of programming in CSS3/HTML5, including concepts and design trends
  • Experience in responsive and mobile design  
  • Experience designing websites in WordPress
  • Experience with Adobe’s Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, etc.)
  • Strong awareness/knowledge in UI/ Interaction design for the web and mobile 
  • strong attention to detail and desire for quality

  • Familiarity with the University of Michigan brand

Work Schedule

Varies based on ODEI needs. Hours are on a contingency basis, working 28-36 hours/week.
