Job Summary

Acts as a liaison between the analytic team and the data management team to implement new products and programs (e.g. disease registries and reporting) including collection of data requirements, data capture and storage, and testing. Works with internal and external stakeholders to develop processes for data exchange and data manipulation. This position works under the direction of senior and lead staff to utilize SQL, PL/SQL and ETL tools to load and manipulate internal and external healthcare data. Assists in creation of merged data sets and may combine information across systems internal and external to the UMHS, including the electronic medical record and the health system data warehouse to build analytically ready tables and data sets. Coordinate with other team members to determine timing of development efforts and key milestones.  Create documentation related to data management activities.  Designs and delivers analyses and reports using Tableau. This position is directly responsible to the Manager of Quality Analytics and works directly with the Team Lead of Population Health, senior staff and analytic team members to achieve departmental goals.
 

Responsibilities*

Gather and define data requirements and specifications for data capture, storage and testing. Work with internal and external stakeholders, and senior team members to develop processes for data exchange and data manipulation. Perform testing to ensure data quality and integrity. Develop solid understanding of various billing, scheduling and other clinical operational processes and applications in order to better support analytic requirements. Utilize SQL, PL/SQL and ETL tools to load and manipulate internal and external healthcare data. Listen, observe, discuss, read existing code, review internal and external data dictionaries and documentation, and analyze data in order to understand various processes and available data sources. Create reports that have roll up and drill down capabilities using Business Intelligence tools. Write the specifications for patient registries.
 
Create documentation related to data management activities.
 
Coordinate with other team members to determine the timing of development efforts and key milestones.
 
Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications*

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, or related field, or another bachelor’s degree with equivalent experience
  • 3 plus years of experience in information technology business analysis or data management
  • Experience with clinical healthcare data, including data management, and integration of multiple data sources
  • Excellent collaboration, interpersonal, presentation, written, listening, and verbal communication skills
  • Programming/SQL experience and/or experience reading source code
  • Experience in an analytical environment (e.g., data warehouse, business intelligence)
  • Use of BI reporting tools like Tableau, Cliq, OBI
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving ability
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Flexibility to adapt to a changing environment

Desired Qualifications*

  • Epic (vendor) applications, especially Clarity
  • Oracle experience
  • Experience with reporting tools (e.g., Crystal Reporting, Brio Query, MS Access)
  • Experience with ETL tools (e.g., Pentaho, Informatica)
  • Understanding of web-based application technologies
  • Experience with the University of Michigan
