Career Development Office
The Ross Career Development Office (CDO) at Michigan Ross serves alumni and 800 full-time day Master of Business Administration degree students (MBAs), 500 Part-time MBA students, 100 Master of Accounting students (MAccs), 80 Master of Management (MM) students, 55 Master of Supply Chain Management students, and 2,400 Bachelor’s degree students (BBAs) each year by providing a complete range of workshops and coaching services and by maintaining recruiter relationships and coordinating on-campus interviews and off-campus job postings.

Engage students in a strategically designed career development process designed to create career clarity and connections to job opportunities.  This role focuses on and is the primary contact point with the CDO for the Michigan Ross Master of Management population.  These students have a range of traditional career interests (finance, strategy, consulting, general management, marketing) in addition to pursuing off-campus job opportunities.

This position contributes to the CDO strategy and direction, overall programming content, and collaborates regularly with the other Career Coaches.  The Associate Director must be reasonably conversant with all functions of CDO, including those beyond career coaching (recruitment and outreach, employment data, general administration).  The Associate Director will attend onsite corporate events, student club meetings, career programming events, workshops, and will occasionally travel to companies and conferences. This role will report to the Senior Associate Director, Career Coaching.  The person in this role also works with numerous other staff Career Coaches focused on a variety of degree programs.


Individual and Group Coaching

  • Provide individual and group career coaching services to students at Michigan Ross as primary focus. May also provide assistance to other student populations, as needed, during periods of peak demand.
  • Customize general career search process for students who are more exploratory in nature to enable students to achieve career target clarity faster.  
  • Provide individualized support for students in the off campus search and unique career paths adjacent to business pursuits (such as event planning, film production, recruiting assistants, etc.). Approximately 70% of MM students fine their jobs through off campus search efforts.

Program Design and Delivery

  • Responsible for strategic curricular design, development, and delivery of student programs and workshops (including self-assessment/career exploration, resume/personal branding, networking, interviewing, and negotiation) and for providing professional career development coaching and career search consultations for the assigned population.
  • Engage relevant University of Michigan and peer school program leaders for purposes of program innovation, collaboration, and knowledge sharing.
  • Engage with alumni to promote the current students, including coordinating alumni visits to campus, participation on panels, and maintaining relationships with key alumni.
  • Work with student leadership, including the MM program career development chairs, to assess and improve career services activities.

Employer-Interface /Recruitment Opportunity Development

  • Solicit employer involvement with students through participation on career-panels and student visits to company locations.
  • Work with the Employer Relations team to have them follow up with companies so that MM students will be added to campus interview schedules. Review existing BBA Job postings to see if the MM population can be added to these opportunities.
  • Work with a consortium of other business schools with MM programs on employer development activities including company visits and events.
  • Maintain current knowledge of recruitment practices so as to remain vital and credible for coaching purposes, which will entail meeting with alumni corporate recruiters or representatives.  
  • Promote the program and students to key employers, including when they are on campus and making occasional on-site visits to meet with recruiters

Content Creation for Student Media Channels

  • Responsible for the authoring and the ongoing evolution of CDO print, video, presentation, email, and web publications, including social media, for MM students. Communicate frequently with MM students via e-mail. Create resources for students to craft their career visions, life stories and goals.


  • Interview prospective students to provide insight and guidance on the potential success of that applicant with regards to career outcomes.

Required Qualifications*

  • A bachelor’s degree in business administration or related field and a minimum of three years overall work experience in career counseling/coaching and/or professional recruitment experience or the equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
  • Familiarity with career coaching methods, process-oriented, and comfortable with ambiguity in the career decision process.  
  • Experience providing high-quality and engaging (technology-equipped) presentations and serving a demanding constituency.  
  • Desire to learn, innovate, and efficiently integrate feedback into service delivery.  
  • Strong writing and editing skills.  
  • Professional presentation and engaging demeanor.  
  • Experience managing confidential information, exercising ethical professional judgment and student advisement.  
  • Ability to work independently and to exercise initiative and influence as a critical member of a team.  
  • Willingness to work outside of assigned population as needed.  
  • Proven track record of excellent customer service, including a clear focus on student service, and strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Must be proficient in the use of Microsoft Office. Knowledge of other presentation software is helpful.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks; meet multiple deadlines; and work collegially and collaboratively in a team environment.

Desired Qualifications*

  • Master’s degree in Business, Higher Education Administration, Counseling or Adult Learning and/or Organizational Development is strongly preferred.  
  • Expertise in self-authorship, creating scalable resource/ self-discovery systems or approaches that are high impact across a large population of students. Experience in curriculum design and delivery.
  • Expertise in facilitating career or personality assessments (CareerLeader, MBTI, StrengthsFinder).  
  • Previous experience with on-campus recruiting at a top tier business program and/or equivalent business experience in a BBA function of interest (such as financial services, marketing, consulting, etc.).  
  • Experience with social media to advance organizational goals is a plus.
  • Degree from the University of Michigan.  
  • Experience working with corporate representatives.
  • Familiarity with international student challenges and recruiting.
