Under general supervision, performs technical functions supporting engineering activities at a manufacturing lab - at the Mechanical Engineering Department, University of Michigan.
Technical functions at the manufacturing lab may include, but are not limited to: management and organization of lab space; coordinating equipment installation and removal; overseeing equipment maintenance; maintaining and enforcing safety; helping faculty and students with machining/fabrication of parts and running experiments on manufacturing equipment; training students on equipment usage; documenting training/maintenance procedures; and maintaining MSDS and other safety-related documentation.
Associates degree (or equivalent) and minimum of five years' experience in machine shop. Excellent managerial and people skills. Openness to learning new technical skills.
Experience in machine shop management is a plus.
This is a 50% effort position - 20 hours per week. Salary range posted is equivalent rate at full-time effort, so paid rate would be half the amount.
