Job Summary

RESEARCH ASSISTANT (work completed in Ann Arbor)

Job Summary: Under general direction, assists with research project by performing moderately complex independent research and writing, including performing various clerical and editorial duties; compiles, processes and analyzes data.  Project is time-limited. Candidate should be available 10 - 20 hours/week. This work will be completed in Ann Arbor.

 

CHARACTERISTIC JOB TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Under direction perform the following tasks:

Gather historical data from sources such as LGBT community organization’s archives, public records, news files, and photographs, as well as collect data sources such as books, pamphlets, and periodicals.

Trace LGBT community involvement in advancement of progressive LGBT laws, policies, and practices, including social, cultural, and political development.

Conduct historical research and writing, including interviews of people to gather information about historical events, and to record oral histories.

Performs various clerical duties including typing, answering phones, preparing correspondence, and preparing and maintaining bibliographies.

Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and experience equivalent to:

Current student at University of Michigan, undergraduate or graduate degree program.  Familiarity or interest with LGBT rights, policies, and movements.  Ability to work 10 - 20 hours/week in LGBT community center located in Ann Arbor, MI.
