University of Michigan-Flint Department of Theatre and Dance is seeking a detail-oriented, energetic, and creative work study student for employment within the props area of the theatre. A wide variety of artistic skills would be useful - anything from basic carpentry to basic sewing or painting - but aren't required. A zealousness for learning and willingness to create and experiment is a must. Hours will also include maintaining our large stock and will take place during normal business hours. Required: Students must be able to lift at least 25 pounds; additionally, this job requires applicants to climb both stairs and ladders. The Department of Theatre & Dance considers these temporary part-time positions to be apprenticeships. Students will be working on actual shows and getting real, industry quality hands-on experience while being supervised by professionals. Experiences like these can be listed on a resume for future jobs and graduate school applications, and are considered an important part of what it means to be a successful theatre and/or dance major.
