The Social Media and PR Assistant/ Communications Administrator provides administrative and logistical support to the Communications Marketing Manager. He/she will also plan and implement the Museum’s social media strategy, create content to engage Museum audiences on a variety of platforms, and will assist with public relations campaigns for the Museum. Will provide editorial review of UMMA materials as directed.
The Social Media/PR Assistant at UMMA is a 20 hours/week position. Salary range posted reflects this level of effort.
Provides a variety of professional and administrative duties in support of the day-to-day operations of the Department. Assists communications manager in developing the Museum’s brand through content ideation and response to analytics. Manages production and distribution of email newsletter, press releases, press sheets, and photo archives. Produces content for social media including student blog, Facebook, Twitter and Instagram daily. Creates online content such as photography, video, and text for the website. Coordinates and implements UMMA’s archival project with the Bentley Library, and files press clips for archives. Maintains relationships with outside sources important to the Communications such as other communicators and community members.
As assigned, will review materials for editorial content, both substantively and for copy-editing.
Assists the Communications Marketing Manager with routine duties and special projects as needed. Assists in postings for digital signage within the Museum as needed.
Provides overall support to and receives direct supervision from the Communications Marketing Manager
May supervise work-study students, temporary employees, and/or interns as needed.
Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, or related field is required. Must be able to work as part of a team and independently. Must be comfortable with and able to effectively communicate with other staff and participate fully in team meetings. Must be able to work successfully in a matrix environment. Experience creating social media content and updating websites required. Previous editorial experience is required. Excellent written and verbal communications skills and attention to detail are required. Must be skilled working in a Mac environment. Experience with photo and video is desired.
