The Brooks Laboratory at the University of Michigan in the Departments of Chemistry and Biophysics seeks to identify a full-time Applications Programmer/Analyst Intermediate in association with a funded NIH project directed toward the development of the CHARMM biomolecule simulation software package on advanced computing platforms, including scalable parallel CPU and GPU architectures.
Our laboratory collaborates with an international group of developers in the CHARMM community and oversees coordination of these developments as well as integrating them and our own into HPC platforms. The candidate will be primarily responsible for the development of algorithm advances for biomolecule simulation onto parallel CPU and GPU platforms.
The candidate will work with members of the Brooks group as well as other CHARMM developers to implement key molecular dynamics simulation methods on HPC platforms.
In conjunction with co-workers, develop and maintain CHARMM software for postdocs and students in the Brooks research group.
Oversee the software development efforts for GPU accelerated molecular simulation methods in the CHARMM software development project.
Provide an interface between the CHARMM development community and the distribution and release of new versions of the software.
Establish and maintain a software development environment that supports the overall development goals for the CHARMM development project.
Participate in local (usually 3-4 per year) and non-local (1 major) CHARMM developer meetings, including presenting ongoing software developments and maintenance plans.
Master’s degree in computer science, applied math, chemistry, physics or a related field, or equivalent experience; fluency in understanding code written in multiple languages including Fortran, Python, C/C++, Cuda; practical knowledge of parallel and/GPU programming is very important; ability to multi-task, prioritize efforts, and execute independently- and collaboratively-developed ideas in a fast-paced environment.
Ph.D. degree in computer science, applied math, chemistry, physics or a related field, or equivalent experience; additional degree in other quantitative disciplines such as statistics and data science will also be considered if they demonstrate experience HPC programming experience, especially for GPU architectures; experience with standard biomolecule simulation software tools and packages is highly desirable.
