Job Summary

Under the supervision of the microarray services manager, in the DNA Sequencing Core, the candidate will perform microarray procedures involving cDNA synthesis, labeling and hybridization reactions. A component of this procedure involves quality and concentration (QC) monitoring using NanoDrop spectrophotometry, Qubit dsDNA assessment and Agilent Bioanalyzer analysis. The candidate will also perform these assays as a stand-alone service. Additional duties may include high-throughput and automated methods for DNA isolation from blood and saliva. The candidate must possess strong organizational and time management skills and must be proficient in Microsoft Excel. The candidate must also be able to communicate clearly with supervisors, co-workers and clientele.

Responsibilities*

Perform Microarray procedures involving cDNA synthesis, labeling and hybridization reactions.
Perform quality and concentration (QC) assessments using NanoDrop, Qubit and Bioanalyzer/Tapestation instruments.
Perform high-throughput and automated methods for DNA isolation from blood and saliva.

Required Qualifications*

Bachelor’s Degree in Biology or related field with emphasis on laboratory intensive coursework with 0-1 year of experience. Basic computer skills are required. Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English are required, as well as critical analytical thinking, and an ability to work well as a member of a large team. Be able to interact with customers in a clear, effective and professional manner.
 
- Basic computer skills and familiarity with Microsoft Office with particular strengths in data organization using MS Excel.
- Excellent teamwork and fluent verbal and written English communication skills.
- Strong organizational and multitasking skills.

Desired Qualifications*

Preference will be given to candidates with experience working in a research laboratory setting, outside that prescribed in their curriculum. A general curiosity in molecular biology and chemistry is strongly preferred.
