Responsibilities*

Develop the analytical and statistical approaches for particular research questions. Carry out statistical and descriptive analyses and evaluate results. Devise tests to evaluate the validity of data and analyses. Work with other staff members and faculty members to evaluate chronic and end stage renal disease research findings. Write SAS programs and documentation for data preparation, analysis file creation, statistical analysis, and reporting. Assist with the preparation of programs requiring complex combination of data from multiple sources. Write documentation of computer program code used in the research. Write documentation and research guides for projects. Assist in the creation and checking of project reports and deliverables. Participate in meetings and conference calls with research sponsors to define research questions and deliverables, present results, and determine next steps. Answer questions from the community and external contractors about measure calculations and/or investigations into data irregularities. Perform independent critical analyses of pertinent literature, Medicare rules and regulations, and legislation. Evaluate data sources to determine whether and how they can be used for particular research questions. May contribute to research papers and manuscripts for publication and presentation at conferences and workshops.

Required Qualifications*

Master's degree in Biostatistics, Statistics, Public Policy, Economics, Epidemiology or a related field. Two or more years of work experience with health-related data analysis. Research experience using SAS for data management and statistical analysis. At least one graduate level course in statistics. Excellent communication skills, both oral and written. Strong organizational skills, attention to detail and accuracy. Excellent interpersonal skills. The ability to work as part of a team or individually while meeting deadlines in a multi-tasking environment. Excellent computing skills in the Windows environment, particularly with MS Word, Excel, and Power Point.

Desired Qualifications*

Advanced statistical training including survival analysis. Experience in technical and research writing including writing proposals. Experience with R programming language.

ORGANIZATION: The Kidney Epidemiology and Cost Center (KECC) carries out research in epidemiology, public policy, economics, outcomes research relating to End-Stage Renal Disease (ESRD), chronic kidney disease, and organ transplantation (www.kecc.sph.umich.edu). KECC maintains a comprehensive historical database of over 3 million ESRD patients drawn primarily from Medicare data.
