Michigan Medicine’s Health Information Technology & Services department seeks an Applications Systems Analyst/Programmer to support the Michigan Medicine Transplant Center.  Primary responsibilities include supporting and maintaining the OTIS application (the department’s EHR

Responsibilities*

The Applications Systems Analyst/Programmer is responsible for the following tasks:

Application Operational Support

  • Coordinate software updates and changes for new releases
  • Assist end users with questions, issues
  • Participate in on-call rotation

Application Optimization, workflow design, and new development

  • Assist end users in designing technical solutions to address operational or workflow issues
  • Develop new tools and functionality within and outside of the OTIS application
  • Develop solutions for Data Requests based on new regulatory requirements, operational improvement efforts, financial review needs, etc.

Planning for Epic Phoenix Implementation

  • Conversion planning
  • Workflow review and modifications
  • Transition existing application reports into Tableau

Communication

  • Communicate status of work to leadership in team meetings
  • Communicate status of work to customers in customer meetings.
  • Participate in planning for additional projects/optimization requests

Required Qualifications*

Required qualifications for Senior position:

  • BA/BS degree or better in Computer Science or equivalent degree in another field together with related experience
  • 5+ years’ experience programming web applications in Java, JavaScript, and HTML
  • 5+ years’ experience writing complex queries in SQL
  • Demonstrated software design and development skills
  • Experience using SOAP and RESTful web services.
  • Solid and effective written, interpersonal, and oral communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail
  • Excellent analytic and problem-solving ability
  • Ability to work effectively on a team
  • Willingness and strong aptitude to learn new technologies and assume increasing responsibilities
  • Ability to work in a dynamic development environment and adjust to changing priorities, processes, and project plans

Required qualifications for Intermediate position:

  • BA/BS degree or better in Computer Science or equivalent degree in another field together with related experience
  • 3 years’ experience programming web applications in Java, JavaScript, and HTML
  • 3 years’ experience writing complex queries in SQL
  • Demonstrated software design and development skills
  • Experience using SOAP and RESTful web services.
  • Solid and effective written, interpersonal, and oral communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail
  • Excellent analytic and problem-solving ability
  • Ability to work effectively on a team

Desired Qualifications*

  • Familiarity with HIPAA and other healthcare information regulations and requirements
  • Experience building complex reports in a health care environment
  • Experience writing reports in Tableau
  • Experience developing software with Python/Django
  • Knowledge of UM computing environment
  • Understanding of health care data standards- HL7 Messaging, HL7 v.3, CDA, and CCD standards
  • Experience working in a large health care IT environment
  • Experience working with an Epic healthcare environment
  • Experience working with an Organ Transplant department
