5C is a 32-bed general care unit for transplant and gastrointestinal surgery patients.
Common medical diagnosis of patients on 5C include; end-stage kidney disease, end-stage liver disease, Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis, colon cancer, pancreatitis and GI bleeding. Common surgical procedures performed on 5C patients include; kidney, pancreas/kidney, and liver transplants, small bowel resections, and whipple procedures.
Patient population ranges in age from young adult to elderly.
5C offers 8 and 12 hour shifts, a variety of shift rotations, comprehensive orientation, career development, and the opportunity to work with a diverse patient population.

Actual Nursing Framework LEVEL and salary will be determined at time of hire.
Nursing Framework levels range from Level A to Level
Required qualifications must be met by the candidate in order to be interviewed and considered for the position. Posting may be filled after the initial 5-day posting period.

Positions less than 20 hours/week may be combined.

Nursing Specific Info
Condition of hire for Graduate Nurses: Selected GN must successfully pass N-CLEX and be licensed as an RN in the state of Michigan no later than 45 days from date of hire if starting as a Graduate Nurse.
Current Michigan RN license.
Graduate Nurse applicants will be considered. Selected GN must successfully pass the NCLEX and be licensed as an RN in the State of Michigan prior to date of hire.

Experience caring for surgical patient populations within the last two (2) years
Demonstrated sound nursing skills

Demonstrated accountability and dependability as evidenced by completion of continuous mandatory education requirements within identified time frames

Hours: 36 hours/wk
Shift: Evening shift, every other weekend, 8hr shifts
Location: University Hospital-5C, Medical/Surgical
All new employees will be expected to float to a designated unit(s) in times of low census.
