Job Summary

Purpose of Position

To assist physicians and nursing staff in the delivery of patient care and support operational functions in the Transplant Procedures Unit.

 

Responsibilities*

  • Schedule biopsy and paracentesis appointments per guidelines in MiChart using Cadence scheduling
  • Patient intake (e.g. documenting chief complaint, V/S, height, weight)
  • Transfer patient to procedure room and assist in transferring back to recovery area
  • Assists with complex procedures
  • Prepare specimen labels as necessary
  • May perform complex diagnostic tests (allergy) and complex specimen collections
  • Provides routine but complex instructions for patient procedures and treatments, as delegated by providers and nurses
  • May assists with complex procedures, requiring knowledge of complex and varied equipment (i.e. LEEP and laser)
  • Patient intake (e.g. documenting chief complaint, V/S, height, weight)
  • Review and update MiChart as directed
  • Patient follow-up for normal and low complexity test results as directed by provider
  • Assist providers with management of point-of-terminology.
  • Moderate standing/walking, as well as, lifting, positioning, pushing and/or transferring patients. Exceptional interpersonal skills and ability to work well within a team setting.

Required Qualifications*

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 1-3 years of experience
  • Certified Medical Assistant
  • Communicates effectively.
  • Demonstrates active listening, written, verbal and information technology skills

Desired Qualifications*

  • MI Chart Cadence Scheduling
  • Experience working within a large, complex health care setting. Familiarity with UMHS electronic medical record systems. Knowledge of University policies and procedures.
  • One year of experience as a medical assistant is desirable.
  • Prior experience assisting in procedures area
  • Excellent Attendance.
