The Program Director has responsibility for the success of Open Enrollment Executive Education Programs. Success is measured by class participant numbers, financial results, participant satisfaction and other criteria identified as important to the Ross school.

This position reports to the Executive Director for the APRO region based in Hong Kong. This position works closely with a) internal and external marketing specialists, b) program directors, c) program managers and coordinators, d) faculty directors and faculty instructors, and others, possibly including, for example, executive coaches and representatives from partnering organizations.

Has budget and margin responsibility for his/her portfolio and each individual program in it. Along with faculty director, has responsibility for participant satisfaction. Identifies companies that are regular senders and uses Key Account approach to sustain and grow the accounts. The program director is the internal expert on his/her set of programs. S/he will know the program content thoroughly, and will have a deep understanding of the target audience, the reasons they attend, and the benefits they and their organization(s) gain from program participation.


Revenue and Margin Generation

  • Establish relationships with companies and enlist their selection of Ross OE programs for their employees to attend. Meet regularly with companies to discuss their leadership and talent development needs and offer solutions comprised of open enrollment programs wherever it makes sense. Develop strategic account plans and manage the company relationships as key accounts.
  • Establish relationships with individuals who are attending or are interested in attending programs, discuss their development needs and offer solutions comprised of Ross programs where applicable.
  • Handle incoming requests for information about the program where appropriate; counsel individuals as to best-fit programs for them based on their needs.
  • Work with program managers and faculty directors to create program pro-formas and to ensure program expenses are on budget and margin targets are met.
  • Introduce our EE capability in custom work, provide appropriate industry or content examples of successful custom programs and relationships in the APRO region, ME or US to establish our credibility as a potential partner.
  • Escalate custom leads to the APRO Executive Director.
  • Go on joint business development meetings with the APRO Executive Director to learn about custom programs and the custom selling process.
  • Participate in the RFP and proposal process for custom programs.
  • Actively explore and promote opportunities for custom programs at client visits where appropriate.


  • Contribute to the strategy and execution of marketing of campaigns.
  • Work closely with marketing leaders (internal and external experts) to develop comprehensive, multi-faceted marketing plans for each program offering; analyze and measure results of the marketing efforts; adjust marketing efforts according to previous results.
  • Collect market data from client meetings, competitor conversations to help inform AA and APRO of market trends and shifts.
  • Attend events for networking activities; speak/present at events.
  • Participate in other activities designed to garner interest in, and attendance at, our open enrollment events.
  • Attend conferences, seminars and events to help promote open and custom programs.

Portfolio Management and Innovation 

  • Understand competitive landscape and trends. Position programs effectively in marketing and business development efforts.
  • Work with faculty directors and instructors and with other EE team members to evaluate program and portfolio performance, determining which programs should be kept and which eliminated from or changed within portfolio.
  • Add new programs to the portfolio.
  • Work with faculty to devise and incorporate new pedagogically sound activities to include in existing programs, in line with Michigan Ross’s standards for active/action learning. In short, co-create meaningful learning experiences in the open enrollment arena.

Customer & Client satisfaction; Quality

  • Work closely with program managers on program execution, participant engagement, and budget management.
  • Take lead role on follow-up and management of corporate senders, include faculty as appropriate.
  • Follow up to ensure programs meet participant expectations; and make adjustments if programs have fallen short.

Special Assignments

  • Participate in projects relevant to the promotion and improvement of Executive Education/Ross School of Business including, special projects

Required Qualifications*

  • Bachelor’s Degree and minimum of 6 years of experience preferably in a corporate learning or executive education environment or equivalent combination of education and related experience.
  • Contributes to a positive work community by approaching work with diversity, equity, and inclusion in mind; treats others with respect, dignity, and in a manner where individuals feel they belong; listens, values feedback, and learns from the perspectives of others.
  • Client relationship development with executives and learning leaders in large global firms with well-developed learning strategies
  • Program design (of management/executive level learning experience)
  • Knowledge of adult learning theory and practices
  • Ability to engage with sophisticated clients (e.g., Vice President and above, in Human Resources but also the full range of business functions)
  • Ability to design programs and innovative learning experiences
  • Demonstrated project management and organizational skills; strong attention to detail
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects with tight deadlines and consistently meet deadlines
  • Ability to work independently and to exercise initiative
  • Team-oriented, flexible and customer-service oriented manner
  • Proven ability to successfully interact with a diverse group of people
