Job Summary

The University of Michigan Biological Station (UMBS) is seeking to hire a a Recruitment and Outreach Coordinator. This full-time position will be based in Ann Arbor during the fall and winter terms and at the Biological Station’s Pellston, Michigan campus May through August.

Responsibilities*

Working under the direction of the Biological Station Director and Associate Director, the Recruitment and Outreach Coordinator’s responsibilities include:

  • Develop marketing plan and lead undergraduate and graduate student recruitment for all Biological Station programs.
  • Develop, coordinate and lead all public, donor and alumni events for the Biological Station in Ann Arbor, Pellston and Midwestern region.
    • Organize and lead introductory and educational tours of the Biological Station for special visitors, public school groups.
    • Organize summer lecture series and annual winter research meeting.
  • Manage website, maintain regular social media promotional postings (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc.).
  • Develop and maintain relationships with UM and Northern Michigan news outlets by promoting, writing and distributing information in the form of press releases and articles. Produce annual newsletters.
  • Support development efforts through gift stewardship and donor correspondence.

Required Qualifications*

Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of three years of communications and outreach experience is required. Ability to interact effectively with college students. Comfortable and able to interact effectively with teaching faculty, research scientists, and staff, as well as alumni and public. Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects with varying deadlines. Excellent presentation and communication skills, as well as interpersonal skills with a diverse population, are critical. Previous experience creating and implementing successful recruitment/marketing communication plans and demonstrated experience in producing print, website, social media, digital advertising, and other media communications. Proficiency with social media promotion. Must be able to spend a total of 8 weeks during the summer at the Biological Station in Pellston, Michigan.

Desired Qualifications*

Experience leading one or more successful campus outreach campaigns. Experience with Adobe design software and Google Analytics. Experience with event and meeting coordination.
